Great-tailed Grackle at Hyatt Hidden Lakes Reserve

Towards the end of May another birder found a Great-tailed Grackle hanging out at Hyatt Hidden Lakes Reserve in Boise. After a few others were able to re-find it, we decided to go see it for ourselves. We had seen plenty while living in Colorado, but we had not seen one before in Idaho. These guys are not unheard of in Idaho, but are few and far between, since this is at the far edge of their normal range.

Luckily these guys make some pretty incredible noises, so it wasn’t hard to track him down. We found him hanging out on the island in the first pond on the right as you head in from the north parking lot. It was coming and going from the denser vegetation further back towards the hill.
