Loggerhead Shrike in Round Valley

In mid-April we spent a day up in Valley County. We didn’t get going as quick as we wanted to and didn’t end up having very much time to spend, so other than a couple of quick stops we didn’t actually get much quality birding time. A quick loop through Round Valley was the most productive part of the day, with the best find being this Loggerhead Shrike, which is a pretty good find for Valley County.

Vesper Sparrows were also present in good numbers, as they have been in several places over the past week or two.

We drove in to Ponderosa State Park as well, hoping to go for a hike around Lily Marsh to look for American Three-toed Woodpeckers. However when we got there most of the park was still closed, so we ended up just turning around in a parking area. Our quick stop did however turn up this Western Bluebird.
